Remembers
In
preparation for painting Liberty Remembers, citizens throughout
Crawford County, Ohio were asked to submit photographs of veterans
for possible representation in the mural.
The response was phenomenal! Not only did we receive photographs,
but personal mementos as well, such as diaries, dog tags, and artwork.
Realizing the importance of preserving the history and stories of
these individuals, Kathy Grohe scanned and documented every submission
before returning the entries to their owners.
Not wishing that any of these heroes be forgotten, Kathy encouraged
the community to publish all the submissions she had documented
– not just the 284 represented in the mural. The Crawford
County Genealogical Society took up the challenge!
Kathy Grohe designed the cover and many other dedicated volunteers
spent countless hours entering and editing data which culminated
in the book you see here, Liberty Remembers, Veterans and Servicemen/Women
of Crawford County, Ohio.
